In-home physiotherapy for seniors, mobility and falls prevention

In-home physiotherapy for older adults can focus on strength, balance, walking, transfers, mobility-aid use, and confidence with everyday movement. Nicholas works one-on-one with the person receiving care and can involve a family member or caregiver where appropriate and with consent. Assessment and rehabilitation take place around the real surfaces, spaces, and activities that matter at home. Home visits are available across Toronto and select GTA communities. The aim is to identify modifiable movement and functional factors and work toward practical goals, without suggesting that physiotherapy can eliminate fall risk or guarantee a particular outcome.

Who this service may be for

This service is designed for older adults who want to maintain or improve their independence at home, as well as adult children or caregivers arranging care for a family member.

We focus on identifying modifiable movement factors and supporting safer, more confident movement.

What a visit can look like

We begin by discussing your mobility history, everyday challenges, and what you hope to achieve.

Assessment involves observing how you move around your home, including walking, using mobility aids, and completing transfers like standing up from a chair.

Initial treatment and education are provided where appropriate, followed by a personalized progression plan to continue building strength and balance.

Why the delivery setting matters

For older adults working on mobility, the home provides relevant context for assessment and rehabilitation.

In-home physiotherapy allows Nicholas to review real transfer surfaces, such as a bed or chair, and typical home movement tasks. Practising in that setting can help connect rehabilitation with the person’s daily routine and independence goals.

Our sessions may involve:

Common questions about physiotherapy at home

Is this service only for people who have already fallen?

No. While we support those who have fallen, we also work with older adults who want to maintain their independence, improve their balance, or simply feel more confident in their daily movement.

Can physiotherapy help with balance and walking at home?

Yes. By identifying modifiable movement factors and working on targeted strength and balance, physiotherapy can support safer, more confident movement where possible.

Can you review cane or walker use?

Yes. Nicholas can observe how you use a mobility aid and provide guidance that may support more confident use where appropriate.

Can a family member participate?

Absolutely. Caregiver or family participation is often useful where appropriate, provided there is patient consent.

Do you provide physiotherapy in retirement residences?

Yes, we provide private physiotherapy visits in retirement residences, depending on facility access and scheduling.

What happens if there is a sudden or urgent change in health?

Physiotherapy manages functional movement, not acute medical changes. For sudden or urgent changes in health, please seek appropriate medical care immediately.
