Post-surgical physiotherapy at home
Post-surgical physiotherapy at home can support people returning home after orthopaedic surgery or a hospital stay. Care follows relevant surgeon or hospital instructions and precautions while working toward practical goals such as walking, transfers, stairs, strength, and everyday activity. Seeing how you move in your own environment can help Nicholas adapt exercises and task practice to your actual setup. Physiotherapy complements, and does not replace, follow-up with your surgical or medical team. Home visits are available across Toronto and select GTA communities.
Who this service may be for
This service supports patients returning home after orthopaedic surgery and people recently discharged from the hospital. It is also helpful for caregivers assisting with mobility and daily tasks.
Please note: Physiotherapy complements, but does not replace, follow-up with your surgical or medical team. For urgent or concerning medical symptoms, please direct your concerns to the appropriate urgent or emergency medical service.
What a visit can look like
Your initial assessment involves reviewing your surgeon’s protocol, discussing your goals, and observing your movement within any required precautions.
We provide initial treatment and education as appropriate, ensuring you and your caregivers understand the current phase of recovery.
Subsequent visits focus on follow-up progression, safely advancing your strength, mobility, and functional tasks while adjusting the plan as you recover.
Why the delivery setting matters
After surgery, traveling to a clinic can be uncomfortable or challenging. In-home physiotherapy removes the stress of travel and allows us to focus on the actual challenges you face at home.
We practice using your real stairs, transfers, and walking routes, adapting the environment to support your recovery safely.

Please have your surgeon or hospital instructions available, identify the main areas where you walk or rest (stairs, chairs, etc.), and have any mobility aids you are using ready.
When should I contact my surgeon or seek medical care instead?
